Klarna FAQ

Klarna is a payment service provider that takes end-to-end responsibility for your payment on eligible online purchases. Klarna provides the service for ArtHistory101.com customers to buy products now and pay for them in four interest-free payments.

Are there requirements for Klarna payments?

Yes. According to Klarna, customers are required:

– to be 18+ years old
– a US-issued debit or credit card
– a US billing address
– an SMS-capable phone number

Klarna is only offered to customers who have a US billing address, a US shipping address, a US mobile phone number and a US-issued major credit or debit card (i.e., Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover). Customers with international billing addresses and/or phone numbers will not be able to set up an account with Klarna.

How do I sign up for Klarna?

If your shopping cart is eligible for Klarna payments, the option will appear during checkout. After confirming your phone number, you’ll receive an SMS message to confirm your identity. You will then be asked to set up your payment method with Klarna and accept the terms of your payment plan.

Which payment methods are accepted by Klarna?

Klarna currently accepts all major debit and credit cards (i.e. Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, Discover). Please note that AMEX cards are not accepted when creating a one-time card for in-store use. Please note, prepaid cards are not accepted.

How does “Pay in 4 Payments with Klarna” work?

  • Your total order amount is divided into four payments.
  • The first payment is required immediately upon placing your order.
  • The next three payments are paid every 2 weeks, charged to the card used to make your first payment.
  • Reminders will be sent 2 days before each payment is collected via SMS and email.
  • Payments may be made early by visiting the Klarna website or downloading the Klarna app. There you can see all your purchases and make payments early. For more details, please see terms.
  • The service is interest-free when payments are made on time.

Is there a minimum or maximum transaction amount when making purchases using Klarna as a payment method?

Klarna currently supports transactions between $35 and $1,000, however approval is based on a customer’s ability to pay the full balance.

Can I use other payment methods in addition Klarna for the same order?

You are unable to use additional credit or debit card payment methods to pay in part for an order where you want to use the Klarna payment method. However, you are permitted to apply coupon codes and eGift Cards prior to proceeding with Klarna.

What if I’m unable to make my payments?

Please reach out to Klarna’s Customer Service team and they will be happy to discuss any options available. You can contact them 24/7 in the Klarna app or at Klarna.com.

Are there any late fees charged by Klarna?

If a payment fails, Klarna may charge a late fee of up to $7 per installment. If you miss a payment, Klarna will send a reminder message, and offer a grace period of 10 days for you to submit payment. If a payment is still not made within the grace period, a late fee of up to $7 will be applied to the next installment. Klarna will only charge one late fee per payment.

Does Klarna perform a credit check?

When you choose four interest-free installments, Klarna may perform a soft credit check. This type of check will not affect your credit score or show up as a hard inquiry on your credit report.

Can I pay off my Klarna balance early?

Yes, you can pay your Klarna balance early in the following ways:

Payments may be made early by visiting the Klarna website or downloading the Klarna app. There you can see all your purchases and make payments early. For more details, please see terms.

Are there limits the number of purchases I can make using Klarna?

Each user is individually approved and will have different options available.

Having trouble completing a transaction on the Art History 101 website using the Klarna service?

If you have any trouble placing an order with Klarna, it could be due to one of the following reasons:

– Klarna may have rejected your application to pay on account. We recommend choosing another type of payment or placing an order for a smaller amount.

– Klarna may not have been able to check your details using the billing address you have provided. Make sure that your billing address is the same address that your bank is registered to.

– You may have outstanding payments on previous Klarna statements. Once these are paid off, try paying with Klarna again. If you have recently paid off outstanding statements, please allow 24 hours before trying to pay through Klarna again.

– You may have missed a required field at checkout.

– If you have not used Klarna before and you are shipping to a different billing address, the payment may be declined.

Please note Klarna is an independent payment company. Art History 101 has no influence over whether or not your payment with Klarna is accepted. If you have any trouble with your order, please contact Klarna Customer Service.

Can I modify or cancel an order that I used for Klarna?

Once Klarna has approved use of a Klarna payment method for an online order, order details cannot be modified and items cannot be added to the order. You will need to place a new order if you would like to purchase additional items.

If you cancel your order within 30 minutes of placing it, Klarna will update your payments accordingly. You can check the status of this transaction by logging into your Klarna account on the Klarna website or on the Klarna mobile app.

What if I need to make a return?

If you are not happy with your purchase, you may return it following our current returns process. Please note, orders placed online with Klarna cannot be returned or exchanged at an Art History 101 store. Klarna will issue a refund to your Klarna account for qualifying merchandise returned in original, condition within 45 days of your shipment confirmation date. Items must be unworn and tags still attached. Final sale items are not eligible for a return, refund or credit. For more information, please see the Returns section.

Will Klarna receive and process my personal information?

In order to be able to offer you Klarna’s payment options, Klarna will collect certain personal information, such as contact and order details. Klarna will receive this information in order to assess whether you qualify for their payment options and to tailor the payment options for you.

How will Klarna handle my personal information?

Klarna will handle your personal information in accordance with the information in Klarna’s privacy notice and Klarna’s terms and conditions.
